Recently the work of AW has been commemorated by "The Wainwright Rose", "The Wainwright Bridge" and now by one of three new liveried Stagecoach Northwest buses on the 555 route from Windermere to Keswick. Each double-decker is dressed up to proclaim one of three notable people who have greatly influenced life and culture in Lakeland - Beatrix Potter, William Wordsworth and Alfred Wainwright. Supported by Cumbria Tourism, The Lakeland Pathfinder has been commissioned by Stagecoach Northwest to illustrate the life and works of Wainwright who travelled by bus to reach the fells which he meticulously drew for his books.
Adjacent are adverts for Kendal Museum, home of the Wainwright exhibition; a motif recording that this year marks an important milestone, the 75th anniversary of the establishment of the Mountain Rescue Service in Lakeland.
