5th Hillwalkers’ Register Weekend Meet and Annual Dinner
Friday 08 October - Sunday 10 October 2010
The 2010 event, in association with Morecambe Bay & Bowland Group, is once again being organised by Andrew West. This year’s venue is Elterwater Youth Hostel in the Lake District. If you have never sampled the weekend before, then do come along to enjoy what always proves to be a great occasion.
The package for the weekend at the hostel is £56 per person that includes two nights bed and breakfast and a three course meal on Saturday evening. Please let Andrew West know if you wish to attend by the end of July as he will need to confirm numbers with the hostel by then. A booking form is available from:
Andrew West, email: firstname.lastname@example.org; mobile 07720 403083, or by post (enclose a SAE please) to:
Wisteria Cottage, Fountain Hill, Walkeringham, Doncaster DN10 4LX.
Details of the weekend are also available on the website:
Morecambe Bay and Bowland LDWA Group website.
As in previous years, there will be led walks on both the Saturday and Sunday. Participants are welcome to join any of these walks, but are also free to make their own arrangements. The guest speaker on Saturday evening will be Rob Woodall, one of the country’s most celebrated peakbaggers. His peakbagging CV is legendary and the evening is sure to be full of interest as Rob takes us through some of his peakbagging adventures in this country and abroad. Now is the time to book for the weekend, if you haven’t already done so. Do not delay, as the event is expected to fill quickly, with full occupancy of this relatively small hostel anticipated.
The annual weekend is ideal for anyone who expects to complete a round of Wainwrights, Nuttalls, Outlying Fells, Deweys, County Tops, or other hill list. During the 2008 meet we celebrated Rob Woodall’s completion of his English Trig pillars on the Old man of Coniston, and 2009 included Beryl’s Castles completion of the Wainwrights (see above). If your final hill is somewhere close to Elterwater then why not arrange for its ascent to take place on the HR weekend? Let Andrew know of your intentions and he can timetable the walk into the activities of the weekend: you are sure to have many other peakbaggers with you to help you celebrate and make a “real occasion of it”.
